RAD Dance Challenge

Two-day, multi-level competition for RAD students in Canada up to age 18.

The RAD Dance Challenge is a two-day training experience and competition in Canada for students up to age 18 that culminates in an adjudicated showcase of solo performances.

The competition is multi-level and is open to all RAD students, studying with an RAD Registered teaching member. Levels range from Grade 4  – Advanced Foundation. However, competitors deemed eligible to participate in the Solo Seal are not eligible to participate in the Dance Challenge.

Dancers are judged on the performance of an original ballet solo that either their teacher, a fellow student, or themselves have choreographed.

Day 1 has dancers taking non-syllabus classes, focusing on technique,  performance and artistry, as well as one-on-one coaching for their solo performances. With Day 2 comprising of a non-syllabus ballet class, dress rehearsal and performance of solos to an adjudicator and audience, followed by a presentation of participation certificates and cash prize awards.

When?

There will be two Dance Challenges taking place in 2020:

  • May 1 & 2
  • May 3 & 4

Application Deadline: Friday, March 27, 2020

Note: Spots remaining are only at the Advanced Foundation to Advanced 2 Levels.

Completed applications are processed on a first-come, first-served basis; only fully competed applications will be accepted, and must be submitted by the competitor’s RAD Teacher.
