SunDance

Canada’s only Royal Academy of Dance international summer program, SunDance is the only summer intensive in the world to combine RAD Ballet and Limón Modern. Held in association with the Canadian Contemporary Dance Theatre (CCDT), SunDance offers an annual summer intensive dance experience geared towards the cultivation of technique, artistry, creativity, and performance skills. With world-class instruction from leading dance artists from across the globe, repertoire and composition workshops, grounded in strong RAD ballet and Limón modern technique classes, equip dancers for a journey through the complete creative process.

Audition Dates and Times:

Ages 8-10 — Sunday February 25th, 10:00am – 11:30am
Ages 11-13 — Sunday February 25th, 12:00pm – 2:00pm
Ages 14-19 — Sunday March 3rd, 10:00am – 1:30pm

All applicants are required to audition for consideration to attend SunDance 2023. Note: There are NO FEES associated with participating in the audition process. Dancers do not need to be current SCCDT students to attend SunDance.

Audition Information & Registration

When?

July 01 – July 19, 2024

Accepted students must enrol in the full 3 week program. Students will be placed in an appropriate program based on their audition. SunDance reserves the right to modify a student’s program based on further assessments made on the first two days of classes.

Programmes

Program A – Advanced

Ages 14-19
Prerequisites:
Minimum 3 years modern and/or RAD Gr. 8 / Intermediate or equivalent.

Program B – Intermediate

Ages 11-13
Prerequisites:
 Minimum 2 years modern and/or RAD Gr. 7 / Intermediate Foundation or equivalent.

Program C – Elementary

Ages 8-10
Prerequisites:
 Minimum 1 year modern and/or RAD Gr. 2 or equivalent.

Introductory Program (C Intro)

A one-week course combined with Program C, designed to introduce young dancers (ages 8 – 12) to intensive training. Program C Intro culminates with an open house on Friday, inviting family and friends to observe Intro dancers’ final day of classes.

All participants train in RAD Ballet, Limón Modern, Improvisation, Repertoire, and dance-specific Conditioning. Intermediate and Elementary Programs additionally include Character and Jazz, while Advanced participants engage in Contemporary Techniques and Pointe (optional). All dancers participate in interactive workshops covering topics such as injury prevention, nutrition, and mental health. Weekly “Surprise Wednesdays” include special guest workshops in a variety of dance styles. Culminating the three weeks, all dancers participate in a Showcase for friends and family.
