Health and Safety in the Dance Environment - Part 1

Part I of a two-part webinar that will introduce participants to fundamental aspects of physical and moral safety in the dance environment.

SUMMARY

This interactive two-part webinar is the first in a series on healthy dance practice. It will introduce participants to fundamental aspects of physical and moral safety in the dance environment. It will explore all aspects of creating a safe space, including maintaining the psychical environment, legal requirements, risk assessment, and safeguarding.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Participants who complete BOTH Part I and II can choose to undertake Safe in Dance International’s (SiDI) Preparation for Healthy Dance Certificate (PHDC). Those who choose to pursue the PHDC certificate will be referred to the course tutor to liaise with Safe in Dance International. An additional fee to SiDI is required to pursue certification, which will be co-ordinated between the participant, course tutor, and Safe in Dance International.

Participants who complete BOTH Part I and II can also go on to pursue the full SiDI Healthy Dance Practice Certificate (HDPC) by completing Core Principles 2-10. Those sessions will be available for registration shortly. Please find the schedule below, with all sessions taking place from 1-3pm:

LEARNING AIMS – Health & Safety in the Dance Environment Part I

  • Explore fundamental aspects of physical health and safety in the dance environment;
  • Explore fundamental aspects of moral safety in the dance environment;
  • Highlight legal requirements to protect the rights of everyone involved in the dance environment;
  • Discuss practical elements of preparing, managing and monitoring dancers and facilities for health and safety.

LEARNING OUTCOMES – Health & Safety in the Dance Environment Part I

  • Be able to prepare and conduct dance activities in a safe, secure and hazard-free environment, and evaluate when it is appropriate to modify planned activities;
  • Have a greater understanding of how to protect dancers and themselves, through familiarization of relevant regulations and policies and the use of appropriate risk-assessment techniques;
  • Be able to create safe spaces that promote equal opportunities and ensure safeguarding and protection of vulnerable peoples;
  • Understand legal requirements and regulations, and know how to monitor the suitability of facilities and equipment, to ensure the safety of all users;
  • Be prepared to undertake Safe in Dance International’s Preparation for Healthy Dance Certificate (PHDC), if they choose after completion of Part II.

This activity is worth 2 hours of Time-Valued CPD.
