The Assistant Teacher Award offers young dancers studying any dance genre, opportunities to practice and develop some of the skills required for successful dance teaching. Students working towards the Assistant Teacher Award will be guided each step of the way by experienced Approved Tutors.

Aimed at young dancers aged 14-18, the Assistant Teacher Award is grounded in practice-based learning.  Through guidance, observation and continuous assessment conducted by Approved Tutors, Assistant Teacher Award students will complete 60 hours of dance teaching assistance, produce a reflective report of their experiences, and demonstrate in practice the core competencies of dance teaching.

Approved Tutors will have undergone a rigorous application process, be trained in how the Assistant Teacher Award is assessed, and attend compulsory annual CPD in relation to their mentoring role. All of these processes ensure that Assistant Teacher Award students receive high-quality support from experienced dance teachers passionate about supporting the next generation.

Further information about the Assistant Teacher Award and how dance teachers can apply to become Approved Tutors will be available in February. For dance teachers and students wishing to be notified when this information is available, please email faculty@rad.org.uk headed Assistant Teacher Award with your expression of interest.
